Akira is responsible for leading the IIRC’s new fundraising strategy, in partnership with senior management, the IIRC Board, key external stakeholders, donors and prospects; and securing new funds from prospective donors in the UK, US, and internationally.
Before joining the IIRC, Akira spent three years with the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA) based in Stockholm, Sweden, where he was responsible for resource mobilisation and partnership building. Previous to that, he worked for the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) Programme in Bonn, Germany as well as the International HIV/AIDS Alliance in the UK and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in the Maldives. He started his career at Marubeni Corporation in Tokyo, Japan. Akira holds Master’s Degree in City Planning from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, with focus on political economy in international development.
