What Leonardo says about its journey towards integrated reporting

Integrated thinking and reporting is a paradigm shift for both companies and investors as it requires you to look at the business model in a more well-rounded way. At Leonardo, this means evolving our representation of how we generate economic, social and environmental impacts and value for our stakeholders, by delivering innovation, security and highly-qualified employment opportunities in the long term.

We started from the top, placing sustainability on the Board agenda and discussing both financial and non-financial performance at executive level. By answering new questions and investigating new aspects of our value chain, we triggered an integrated and forward-looking approach, with the aim of disclosing the real value of our industrial assets, people and relationships with stakeholders.

For this purpose, we identified the main capitals of our business model and how we use and build up those resources, through our key value-added processes, complementing traditional economic and financial performance measures with data on knowledge and skills’ management, customer intimacy, continuous innovation, supplier involvement and attention to environmental sustainability.

In 2020, we released the first Integrated Annual Report to offer in a single document a complete, measurable and transparent view of the value generated by the company, connecting financial performance with environmental, social and governance information. It has been prepared in compliance with the “GRI Sustainability Reporting Standards” published by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), using the “core” reporting option, while also considering other indicators such as the International Integrated Reporting Council (IIRC) Framework, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), the Ten Principles of the United Nations’ Global Compact, the standards issued by the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) for Aerospace & Defence sector and the recommendations of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosure (TCFD).
