Managing Director of Redefining Value and Education

In his role as Managing Director of Redefining Value and Education at WBCSD, Dr Irwin is responsible for a portfolio of projects designed to advance the measurement and valuation of externalities to take sustainable development into the mainstream reporting of an organisation. He is the link between WBCSD members and standard/regulation setters and his team are working on projects in risk management, assurance and reporting. The Redefining Value team, in partnership with others are developing the Natural Capital Protocol (NCP) having been awarded this by the Natural Capital Coalition, working on the development of a Social Capital Protocol and are developing The Reporting Exchange in partnership with CDSB, a database of reporting requirements to help businesses navigate the reporting landscape. On the education side of his role, he has developed and delivered education programs designed for mid and senior finance staff and is currently expanding the WBCSD education products. He has been a guest lecturer at Yale University, Cambridge University, University of Geneva and Rotterdam and Lancaster Schools of Management. He holds a degree in Economics from The Queen’s University of Belfast, a Master’s degree in management and a Doctorate where he researched comparative corporate governance and its interrelationship with ethical decision making and reporting at ISM Paris. He has also completed the Masters in Sustainability Leadership at Cambridge University in 2012 and holds the AACSB/CABS accredited faculty status for business school educators. Professional accreditations include Fellowship of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland, Certified Fraud Examiner, Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional and Specialist Member of the Institute of Risk Management. He is a Board Member of CDSB and was a member of the Working Group of the IIRC and a member of the SASB Advisory Board.
