Stephen Harrison has a Bachelor’s (Honours) degree and a Master’s degree in Economics from the University of Sydney.
From 1967-1991 he worked at that University as Lecturer, University Statistician, Assistant Principal and finally as the University’s Deputy Principal and Bursar. In 1991 he left the University to take up the position of Executive Director of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (later Chief Executive Officer) where he worked until retiring in 2005. Just prior to his retirement he was made an Honorary Fellow of the Institute. He is also a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
In early 2006 he was asked to be the (part-time) CEO of the recently formed Global Accounting Alliance, a position he still holds.
He has been a non-executive director of a number of not for profit organisations including The King’s School, Ascham School, the Blue Mountains Grammar School, Oxley College, the Museum of Contemporary Art, the National Institute of Dramatic Art and the Women’s College of the University of Sydney.
In 2000 he was made an Officer (AO) in the Order of Australia “for service to the accountancy profession, nationally and internationally, to administration of educational institutions, and to the community”.
