Terence Nombembe joined the IFAC Board in March 2015.   He was nominated by The South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA).

He completed his articles at KPMG and has been a qualified Chartered Accountant since 1990. He was conferred with an Honorary Doctorate in Accounting Science from the Walter Sisulu University on 14 May 2014.

Terence joined SAICA in his current position as the Chief Executive Officer in January 2014.  Prior to that, he worked as the Auditor-General where he supported Government to embrace the “Clean Audit” vision as a catalyst for good governance in the public sector.  During his tenure as Auditor-General he was President of the African Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions (AFROSAI) and of the International Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI).  As President of INTOSAI he left behind an organisation that embraces professionalism and takes pride in the value and benefits of Supreme Audit Institutions across the globe.  As President of AFROSAI he left behind an organisation with the unity of purpose and collaboration across all three linguistic sub-regions of AFROSAI.

As a Board Member of the South African Accounting Standards Board he contributed to the development of accrual based public sector accounting standards that brought into effect the constitutional requirement of introducing the generally recognised accounting practice (GRAP) in the public sector.  He was also a member of the IFAC Public Sector Committee and contributed to the development of international public sector accounting standards.

As a Trustee Member of the Thuthuka Bursary Fund of SAICA he contributes to the transformation of the accounting profession through production of chartered accountants from historically disadvantaged  sections of South African Communities.  His participation as a board member of the South African Reserve Bank since June 2014 provides Terence with exposure to the operations and governance of Central Banks.

He also has experience as a partner in a medium practice and a manager in big business as internal auditor financial manager.  Some of his other previous employers have been Gobodo Incorporated, BP Southern Africa (Pty) Limited and Unilever South Africa (Pty) Limited.
