Open Letter to Erik Thedéen, Chair of the Sustainable Finance Task Force of the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO)

Posted 30 September, 2020

The International Integrated Reporting Council has, together with CDP, the Climate Disclosure Standards Board (CDSB), the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) written an open letter to Erik Thedéen, Director General of Finansinspektionen, Sweden, and Chair of the Sustainable Finance Task Force of the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO).

The letter builds on the joint statement of intent we co-published earlier this month, which presents a shared vision of the elements necessary for comprehensive corporate reporting and how our frameworks and standards complement Financial GAAP and provide the natural starting point for progress towards a globally coherent solution.

We set out how IOSCO can play a leading and critical role in accelerating this system change by facilitating cooperation among the necessary elements of the global architecture for consistent reporting of sustainability information that is relevant for enterprise value creation, as part of a comprehensive system of corporate reporting.

The letter coincides with the publication of the IFRS Foundation Trustees consultation on a global approach to sustainability reporting and the letter calls on IOSCO and the IFRS Foundation to work closely with us to drive the comprehensive corporate reporting system that the world so urgently needs.
