Charles Tilley OBE, FCMA, CGMA is Executive Chairman of The CGMA Research Foundation, which focuses upon Management Accounting thought leadership including developments in external and internal reporting, performance management, and the development of the finance function.

Formerly CIMA’s CEO, Charles spearheaded the joint venture with the American Institute of CPAs, and was fundamental in conceiving and creating the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants.
Charles is chairman of International Federation of Accountants’ (IFAC) professional accountants in business committee.  Charles is a member of the International Integrated Reporting Council (IIRC), and previously chaired the IIRC’s technical task force, the group responsible for developing the <IR> framework. He is also a member of the UK Financial Reporting Council’s Lab and the A4S Advisory Council.
Prior to joining CIMA, Charles spent 14 years at KPMG, becoming a partner in 1986. Subsequently, he held senior positions as Group Finance Director of investment banks Hambros plc and Granville Baird plc. He has also held non-executive positions at the Ipswich Building Society and Great Ormond Street Hospital.
For his positive leadership and achievements in promoting the importance of management accounting, Charles was recognised in the 2016 New Year’s honours list and awarded the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for services to the economy.
