Mike Suffield

Director, Professional Insights

Mike Suffield joined the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) in August 2019 as Director of Professional Insights. In this role, Mike leads a team of experts commenting on technical and professional developments and delivering thought leadership on issues impacting the future of the finance profession.

Prior to joining the ACCA, Mike was Director of Audit Quality and then most recently Acting Executive Director of Audit and Actuarial Regulation at the UK Financial Reporting Council. This latter role saw Mike take responsibility for oversight of all of the FRC’s audit-related activities, including audit quality monitoring, alongside a leadership role on the FRC’s Executive Committee.

Mike is a qualified chartered accountant. Prior to joining the FRC, he was a Lead Director at the National Audit Office where he worked from 1995 to 2016, leading the audit of a range of UK government departments. At the NAO, Mike was also joint head of the Compliance and Quality Unit with responsibility for audit quality arrangements.

Mike began his career at Coopers & Lybrand (now PwC) in 1988 and trained as an auditor.
