The Company is a pioneer and leader in digital annual reports, having prepared its first end-to-end online HTML annual report in 1999 and its first video annual report in 2012.
Doing business in Asia, Middle East and now Europe, the annual reports prepared by Smart Media have won acclaim internationally. The Company has been hailed as No.1 in the world for annual reports on three occasions with the Platinum Achievement Award for winning the highest number of awards for clients at the International ARC Awards, USA. The Company is also the recipient of three Red Dot Awards from the Nordrhein Design Centre, Germany for design excellence.
With a rich history of research and development, Smart Media has fuelled innovative ideas that go beyond traditional annual reporting. The Company-developed e-book titled The Smart Integrated Reporting Methodology, first published in 2014 is now in its 4th edition. This peer-reviewed methodology helps operationalize the Framework for easy adoption by report preparers. In addition, Smart Media continues to partner with the Value Reporting Foundation in mainstreaming integrated reporting in the Middle East.
The Company’s business is focused on three strategic pillars: Smart Labs (research and development), Smart Academy (capacity building that empowers report preparers) and Smart Works (the core business “To make the making and the reading of annual reports a joy”).
Smart Media’s approach to the Training Partner Programme is through on-the-job training and capacity building of report preparers. Such learning-by-doing creates strong ownership that drives change from within. Transition to integrated reporting is a journey that goes hand-in-hand with integrated thinking, as organizations focus on sustainable business practices and effectively communicate their stories.
Leading by example in supporting this transition, Smart Media chose to be GHG-neutral as far back as in 2011. After reducing what is feasible across all three Scopes the Company offsets its residual GHG emissions through certified carbon credits. Although the 1.5 ℃ pathway to net-zero emissions is challenging, it is achievable if every part of the global economy, however small, puts its shoulder – and mindset – to the wheel.
