Warren Allen

Warren Allen commenced on 1 October 2015, as Chief Executive of External Reporting Board of New Zealand (an Independent Crown Entity), which is responsible for establishing accounting and audit & assurance standards that engender confidence, assist international competitiveness and enhance accountability in New Zealand. He has retired from this position on 13th December 2019.

He is also involved in governance, advisory and speaking roles for both private and public sector entities in New Zealand. He currently Chairs the Audit & Risk Committees of Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Trade (MFAT), The Office of the Controller and Auditor-General (OAG) and Porirua City Council. He also Chairs the Audit Advisory Board for PWC New Zealand.

Mr. Allen is a Past President of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) alter serving as global President from November 2012 until November 2014 (based in  London and New York), and Deputy President for the two years preceding his Presidency. During his Presidency he represented the global accountancy profession on the International Integrated Reporting Council. He served as a member of the IFAC Board since  2006 and was on the Education Committee of IFAC (subsequently the International Accounting Education Standards Board) for 10 years, including as Chairman from 1998 to 2004.

Mr. Allen was a partner for 30 years at EY  (retiring in 2012)  in New  Zealand and served on the firm’s Management Board for more than six years. He has held several other leadership positions in the New Zealand firm, including National Leader of Audit Practice and Country Director of Audit. He is also a Life Member and Past President of the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants (now Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand), where he has served on and chaired various boards and committees. He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, Member of the Institute of Directors, and a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries & Administrators.

He is involved in several community activities including currently as Treasurer and Chair of the Finance Committee at The Wellington Club (Inc), a member of the Advisory Board for Victoria University of Wellington (VUW) – Centre for Accounting and Taxation Research, and the Risk and Audit Committee of the Wellington Diocese of the Anglican Church. Past appointments include over 20 years on the Management and Trust Boards for Samuel Marsden Collegiate School in Karori, Wellington and four years as a part-time lecturer in Auditing in both under-graduate and Masters programmes at VUW’s School of Accounting and Commercial Law.
